Art in Motion: Tai Chi, Chi Kung, and Creative Practice
Instructor: John Powers
Adults & Older Teens
Date: Thursday, April 23, 2026
Time: 7:30pm - 10pm
Feeling stuck in your art practice or intimidated by the blank canvas? This class invites you to explore new creative pathways by combining art-making with the gentle, flowing practices of Tai Chi and Chi Kung. Through simple breathing techniques and basic movements, you’ll learn how principles such as balance, flow, and the interplay of yin and yang can inform your artistic process—shaping composition, color relationships, and movement within your work. Bring your preferred art materials (any non-electronic medium) and existing work if you like. Open to artists of all levels, this class encourages you to reconnect with your intuition and discover fresh insights into your own creative voice. Instructor John Power, a longtime practitioner of both painting and Tai Chi and a student of Master Yu Cheng Hsiang, shares lessons drawn from years of practice and mentorship. No special clothing is required—just wear something comfortable and come ready to explore the connection between movement, breath, and creativity.
