This course will explore the essential mechanics of creating cartoons.  Students will learn
to draw and color original cartoon characters using basic shapes.  Bring a 2B pencil and
sketchbook 9 x 12 or larger..

The Comic Strip  Ages 10 - 18

This course will explore the essential mechanics of cartooning comic strips, focusing on
cartoon figure drawing in black and white, narrative art and composition.  Students will
develop the skills to create original comic strips.  Bring a 2B pencil, kneaded eraser, black
micron pen, ruler (at least 18'' in length), a sketchbook and 14 x 17 bristol paper.

Have fun learning how to paint with watercolor using salt, sponges and splatter in addition
to a brush.  Students will also learn some traditional techniques as well, painting skies,

Develop an individual approach and expand your painting and design skills using fluid
acrylics, watercolor and collage materials.  Learn layering techniques using multiple
transparent glazes, gold leafing with collage, and texture with various tools.  Explore
creative ways of combining watermedia and acrylics.  Emphasis on underlying abstract
design structure enables you to employ these techniques to enhance both your

Introduction to Stone Carving

This course is intended as an introduction to time-honored hand-carving techniques for
sculpting stone.  We will be working outside-weather permitting.  It is intended as an
ongoing class.  If skipped for bad weather, classes will continue until the sessions are
completed.  Stone can be purchased from instructor for a fee of $50 or you may bring in
your own material.
